Prevent

Studies show the probability of opioid dependence sharply increases after just 5 days of use.

Here are some common Opioid Abuse Warning Signs:

  • Dramatic Mood Shifts
  • Changes in eating/sleeping habits
  • Doctor shopping (getting multiple prescriptions from different doctors)
  • Teens-decline in academic performance/skipping classes/ change in friends
  • Pulling away from family members and close friends
  • Confusion

If you have been prescribed an opioid, there are steps you can take to ensure you are taking the medication appropriately.

Here are some safety tips:

  • Follow the directions as explained on the label or by the pharmacist
  • Be aware of the potential interactions with other drugs as well as alcohol
  • Never stop or change the dosing regimen without first discussing with your doctor or pharmacist
  • Never use another person’s prescription and never give your prescriptions to others
  • Safely store your prescriptions away from others
