Join us for an insightful Teachable Tuesday session exploring the intersection of health care disparities and health literacy within Black American communities.  Dr. James Wilson will guide us through the historical context and ongoing challenges Black Americans face in the U.S. health care system, including the impact of systemic oppression, racism and trauma. Attendees will gain insight into the importance of healthcare literacy for both organizations and Black consumers of healthcare services.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the roots of mistrust in the healthcare system among Black Americans and how low health literacy contributes to poor outcomes.
  • Learn practical strategies to reduce countertransference and implicit bias in service delivery.
  • Recognize how cultural, historical, and intergenerational trauma shapes perceptions of providers and affects service effectiveness.
