Help for First Episode Psychosis

What Is a First Episode of Psychosis (FEP)?

A first episode of psychosis, or FEP, is when someone experiences symptoms like:

  • Seeing or hearing things that others don’t
  • Feeling confused, scared and afraid, or not like themselves
  •  Having trouble thinking clearly or concentrating
  • Feeling suspicious of others or wanting to be alone
These changes can be scary, but you are not alone. With the right support, people can feel better and stay well.

Why early help matters

Getting help early can make a big difference. The sooner you start treatment, the better your chances are for recovery.

Support may include:

  • Talking with a mental health provider
  • Taking medicine to manage symptoms
  • Getting support from family or friends

If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, call us at 1-888-788-4408 (TTY/TDD 711). We’ll help connect you with a caring provider near you.

Real People. Real Progress.

When you're facing something unfamiliar—like seeing or hearing things others don't—it can be scary and confusing. But you're not alone. With the right support, healing is possible.

The stories below are inspired by real people in Arizona who took the first step toward recovery after experiencing a first episode of psychosis. They found care, built resilience, and started new chapters in their lives.

Their journeys show what’s possible when someone reaches out—and how early help can lead to real change.
